Photographs of the Fijian Forests
There are over 30,000 hectares
of managed Mahogany plantations in Fiji.
The natural regrowth of the Mahogany is tremendous.
Small seedlings cover the forest floor, anywhere there is light.

Regrowth begins almost instantly on thinned stumps.
This growth is about 4 weeks old.
All around the mature trees, younger saplings grow,
shooting as high as they can for the sunlight.

In a thinned area, young saplings compete for light. A mature tree.

A mature tree stretches for the sun. A more recent plantation--the first tree is about 40 years old, at the border of one planting area.

The other trees are about 25 years old and are self-seeded.

Several mature trees and young saplings. A mature tree and a 10-15 year old sapling.
